ACCOUNTABILITY
Responsible to the WAMS CEO through the Practice Manager, Programs

JOB SUMMARY

· To establish and manage the Staying Home Leaving Violence Program within Walgett and surrounding areas.

· To work across a range of agencies and social housing providers to identify the housing and support needs of women and their children experiencing domestic/family violence and enhance their capacity to remain safe and secure in their homes

ESSENTIAL:

  • 3 years experience working in a direct client contact role in health or human services
  • Demonstrated experience in working with women and children affected by domestic/family violence in rural/remote communities
  • Sound understanding of the function of government and non-government agencies that provide support or assistance to victims of domestic/family violence ( Police, Local Courts, Human Services-Community Services, Housing, local SAAP services)
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with service providers at a senior level
  • Demonstrated experience in case management of people with high support needs
  • Proven ability to work in an autonomous and accountable manner
  • Excellent written, communication and computer skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of and commitment to assisting Aboriginal communities
  • Current Driver’s Licence

DESIRABLE:

· Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences or related areas

· To be of Aboriginal descent

· Knowledge of communities served by WAMS

DUTIES:

· Support women and children experiencing domestic/family violence to stay in their home

· Identify systemic problems and develop an appropriate service model to prevent homelessness when women and their children leave a domestic/family violence relationship

· Assess each client’s accommodation and /or support needs in a manner that enables the brokering of sustainable solutions to issues affecting women and their children experiencing domestic/family violence

· Identify key clients of women’s services/agencies and negotiate accommodation and support packages that match these client needs with available resources/services and work with them to develop innovative solutions to their issues

· Analyse case and client information trends and demographics to identify systemic blocks to client services and report these as required

· Develop strong lines of communication and networks to support women and their children experiencing domestic/family violence

· Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
